The personal information of 4,000 customers has been stolen. During a car theft in Dallas a laptop computer was stolen. Texas First Bank is warning customers their information maybe compromised.
Measures are being taken to protect affected customers against identity theft a bank official says. There is no cause for alarm.
If the thieves can retrieve any information, the odds on this are very low.
Matt Doyle, the vice chairman of the Texas City-based bank says. “The laptop had a heavily secure password and was equipped with technology designed to prevent unauthorized access.
SI corp., the banks former online banking vendor who owned the laptop said it was stolen on May 19.
“Customers were notified immediately as soon as it was know who was affected”, said Doyle. “We are very open and transparent with our customers ,” he added.
A free 24-month membership to Equifax Credit Watch is being offered by Texas First. This is an identity-theft protection service.
The bank has also offered to pay for $20,000 in identity theft insurance with no deductible to customers whose information has been compromised. They are also monitoring accounts.
Texas First has 19 branches in Galveston, Brazoria, Chambers and Jefferson counties.
