A Child Support Services office in Yuba County has recently reported the theft of a laptop that contained the personal information of 70,000 people.
The information on the laptop contained social security numbers (SSNs), birth dates, driver’s license numbers, and other private information.
County officials have started notifying clients via letters of the incident and provided information about how to protect themselves from identity fraud.
Local law enforcement believes the thieves were after the equipment, due to other missing items from the office.
