A couple involved in an identity theft scheme got arrested by the police over the weekend. The couple, 22 year old Jocelyn Kirsch, and her lover, one Edward K. Anderton, a graduate University of Pennsylvania, were charged with identity theft, forgery, unlawful use of a computer and a couple of other charges.
The couple's alleged scheme provided them with the opportunity to be extravagant, taking trips to Paris, Hawaii etc and spending lavishly. According to the police, the identity theft scheme was run on the credit cards of innocent neighbors in their apartment building and other identity-fraud victims.
A Philadelphia detective, Lt. George Ondrejka said, "Once this investigation got broader and we had more tentacles in it, we realized this is bigger than we thought,"
Searching the couple's expensive apartment, the Police discovered a book titled, "The Art of Cheating: A Nasty Little Book for Tricky Little Schemers and Their Hapless Victims," as well as a 2005 article from Penn's campus newspaper on "How to Spot Fake IDs." These seem to be their tools of trade.
