Children and Identity Theft

In recent years it has become known that identity thieves are frequently targeting children in their illegal activities.

The story of Gabriel Jimenez started when he was 11 years old as a child model, and the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) revealed that his number was already in use for tax purposes. 

Law enforcement authorities finally discovered an illegal immigrant that was using Jimenez's social security number (SSN) in work the immigrant was performing. The incident still affects Jimenez even today at 25 years old.

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has received almost 12,000 identity theft reports in 2005 for victims that are 18 years old or under.
