According to recent Federal Trade Commission (FTC) statistics, senior citizens account for more than 20% of identity theft victims.
The threat of identity theft is a hot issue at the AARP, the nonprofit organization open to people age 50 and older. AARP aggressively works to get passed credit freeze laws nationwide to protect its members and others - from identity theft and fraud.
Experts further make the following recommendations for seniors concerning their identity: shredding unused personal information, review credit reports on regular basis, and carry a photocopy of your Medicare card with the last four digits of the social security number (SSN) removed.
