The President's Identity Theft Task Force has been hard at work in developing a plan to fight identity theft, and they may have just found that plan. This new plan includes increasing awareness, discussing prevention options, detecting identity theft and what type of punishment will be dealt to the offender.

There are three areas that are covered in this plan to crack down on identity theft. The task force looked into what they can do to inform citizens about protecting their personal data.

Government safeguards are also covered under this new plan. The goal is to prevent identity theft instead of just dealing with it as it arises and give more protection for the personal data of individuals and for private businesses.

The tools that are used to prevent, investigate, and prosecute identity theft crimes are also being covered. With more powerful tools, they can then be sure that criminals are receiving adequate punishment.

More information can be obtained through the Identity Task Force's website located at www.idtheft.gov. This plan is being introduced to help combat new ID theft crimes as well as prevent them from ever happening.
